Up to 25 Cups of Coffee a Day Is Safe for Heart, Says New Study

Up to 25 Cups of Coffee a Day Is Safe for Heart, Says New Study

If you’re worried that drinking coffee is bad for your heart, rest assured. Consuming even large amounts of coffee won’t stiffen your arteries, says a new study.

The study, funded by the British Heart Foundation, found that drinking five cups of coffee a day, and even up to 25, was no worse for your arteries than drinking less than one cup a day.

The study was presented at the British Cardiovascular Society Annual Conference in Manchester.

Coffee won’t increase stroke or heart attack risk

Researchers from Queen Mary University of London divided 8,412 people into three groups. The first group drank less than one cup of coffee a day, the second group drank one to three cups a day, and the third group drank more than three cups a day, with some consuming up to 25 cups a day.

Even those who drank 25 cups did not experience stiffening of their blood vessels. Previous studies have suggested that coffee hardens arteries, putting you at a higher risk of stroke or heart attack.

All the study participants underwent infrared pulse wave tests and MRI scans, and the researchers accounted for factors like age, smoking status, weight, and blood pressure.

“There are several conflicting studies saying different things about coffee, and it can be difficult to filter what we should believe and what we shouldn’t,” says Professor Metin Avkiran, associate medical director at the British Heart Foundation, in a statement. “This research will hopefully put some of the media reports in perspective, as it rules out one of the potential detrimental effects of coffee on our arteries.”

How to supercharge your performance

Avoid the Whole30 rut! With wholesome starches and powerful proteins, these paleo and Whole30 recipes will keep your plan fresh and satisfying.

Now, this isn’t an invitation to start drinking 25 cups of coffee a day. If you’re following the Bulletproof lifestyle, then you shouldn’t need huge amounts of caffeine to get you through your day. Follow these tips for long-lasting energy and limitless brain power:

  • Drink Bulletproof Coffee: Instead of reaching for a black coffee made from inferior beans, start your day with a Bulletproof Coffee. Made from high-quality coffee beans, grass-fed butter or ghee, and Brain Octane oil, these ingredients work together synergistically to keep your energy stable for hours. You won’t experience the same energy dips as you would with regular coffee, allowing you to power through your day without needing constant top-ups of caffeine to keep you going.
  • Eat a nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory diet: Cut down on energy-sapping sugar and processed foods, and instead load up on organic vegetables, grass-fed meats, wild-caught fish, and high-quality fats. These foods feed your brain, stabilize your energy, and keep you full for hours. No more distracting cravings or brain fog! Learn more about the Bulletproof Diet here.
  • Get good quality sleep: If you’ve ever felt sleep-deprived, then you know how hard it is to make it through the day. Clean up your sleep hygiene and adopt healthier sleep habits starting today. Good sleep improves brain function and balances your hormones, making you stronger, happier, and more productive.
