7 Bulletproof Drinks for the 4th of July
Life isn’t just coffee and water. Sometimes, you want a flavorful drink to enjoy in the sunshine and celebrate the holiday. Good news: You don’t have to sacrifice your health goals to make it happen. Below, you’ll find festive smoothies, non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails made without dairy, gluten or added sugar.
Big taste, no booze
Red, White and Blue Smoothie
- 1 can (15 ounces) full-fat coconut milk (non-BPA can)
- 3/4 cup fresh organic raspberries
- 1 cup fresh organic blueberries
- Organic grated coconut
- Stevia or a low-glycemic sugar substitute to taste
Blend the coconut milk with the raspberries until smooth. You can substitute frozen berries to make it super-chill. Or add more fresh ones if you want more tang. Garnish with lots of grated coconut and top with fresh blueberries.
Sparkling Plum & Rootbeer Bitters
Bitters are a blend of herbs, roots, bark and spices that have been extracted with alcohol. They usually have a complex floral flavor with sour or bitter undertones, hence the name.
One tasty and clean way to use bitters is by simply mixing a few drops with quality sparkling mineral water. You can use all kinds of bitters, but a Bulletproof staff favorite is the Plum & Rootbeer mix from Vancouver-based Bittersling. While bitters technically have alcohol, the amount is trivial.
This rich mocha recipe proves that you can enjoy rich, creamy coffee without sugar or dairy. (And if you don’t want to mix anything, just pour Dark Chocolate Cold Brew With Collagen Protein over ice — easy!)
Like a Russian nesting doll, this lemonade recipe contains two other recipes inside of it: Basil Lemonade and Smashed Raspberry Lemonade.
One sip of this refreshingly minty drink will prove that “delicious” doesn’t have to mean “packed with sugar.” This recipe is made with a low-glycemic sugar substitute, an alternative sweetener that won’t raise your blood sugar.
Alcohol isn’t a health food, obviously. But many of us drink it, especially to celebrate holidays. If you choose to drink, this alcohol guide will help you minimize the after-effects. As a rule of thumb, tend toward clear liquor over beer or wine — unless it’s made by Dry Farms Wine. Enjoy these drinks responsibly. If you struggle with alcohol or want to stop drinking, talk to a professional.
You might have heard of a Vodka Red Bull. This drink combines vodka and Unfair Advantage, an energy supplement that supports clean, clear energy — without any funky ingredients or additives.
