#BETHEPROOF: Our 5 Challenge Winners Share Their Stories

Earlier this year, we set out to find five people who were hard at work unleashing their limitless potential. Now, they’re ready to share their stories with the world! Check out their tips, tricks and advice below.

Erica Martinez: How Bulletproof Powers My Frontline Work
As a nurse, I feel like I need to be on my A-game all the time I am working in the hospital. In order to be my best while I am there, I drink Bulletproof Coffee each morning. I also need fueling options that are quick and easy, so I also frequently carry convenient, ready-to-drink Bulletproof Cold Brew Latte. I have also added two supplements to my stack over the last several months: Bulletproof Vitamins A-D-K and Bulletproof Zen Mode.
My #BETHEPROOF goals are to feel good and at my best every day. These products and supplements help me accomplish this by allowing me to have a body that doesn’t ache and a brain that processes information clearly. I also feel fatigue-free most days (even when I am on my feet for 12 hours at the hospital), and feel calm, despite the chaos of COVID-19.
In the near future, I aspire to rollerblade (or skate) a 15k, become a proficient Kangoo Jumper and complete a 48-hour fast (I started intermittent fasting in January).
A few words of wisdom… We all approach our journeys from different paths. I won’t pretend that all of my days are full of sunshine and me at my absolute best. I can say that my days are better when I am able to get out and move and feed myself something that I consider nutritious and good for me. I also found that once I built in these anchor habits of daily movement and Bulletproof Coffee that I had less and less days where I was not at my best.
Michael Chickene: Climbing Toward Mind-Body Wellness
My #BETHEPROOF challenge submission was based around my rock climbing! I discovered the sport of rock climbing over a decade ago and find that it is a great way to focus my physical and mental energies. Rock climbing enables me to spend more time outside, and I have traveled all around the country to climb different areas. (Shoutout to Bulletproof Collagen Protein Bars for supporting my adventures!)
It is important to share my story and inspire others because I believe that not enough people have the drive to move. My physical AND mental health are both tied to my physical activities. Bulletproof fuels my activity, keeps me healthy and helps me recover faster. Next up for me: completing a 5.13-graded rock climb, climbing a V10 boulder problem and riding the Triple Bypass and Hincapie Fondos.
One of my favorite self-care activities is my lunchtime bicycle ride. I get at least an hour out on my bike every weekday to step away from my desk job and reset for the afternoon. Stuck in a rut? Get out and exercise. I firmly believe that physical activity drives both physical and mental health.
Linda Kay Royer: Going Bulletproof Helped Me Ditch My Migraines
When I was sick with chronic migraines, it was others’ stories that showed me there was hope. The doctors couldn’t help me, but the biohacking community was filled with people who had healed from various things.
I’ve been a Bulletproof customer since 2014. I have the Bulletproof Vibe, which I bought when I was still too sick to workout. I could stand or squat on the Vibe to get my exercise on my good days. I am a coffee drinker, and also use Bulletproof Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil daily. It was Brain Octane Oil that let me know I was going to be okay. The first time I consumed it, I could feel a difference. (I still can all these years later.)
Bulletproof Collagen Protein and many of the Bulletproof supplements are in my daily stack. It wasn’t just one product, it was the entire Bulletproof Diet that carved my path back to health. I get teary when I think about it. I have been migraine-free since 2017, and I started tracking back to my fitness goals in 2018 with the goal of doing a Spartan Race, a huge goal for an older woman who had been sedentary for four years while too sick to function. But, I did it, and I’m still going. This summer, I’ll be working on my sprinting skills, my newest fitness love, as I await the birth of my first grandchild!
Honestly, I am healthier now than I have ever been, and I’m so grateful. I didn’t appreciate health before my Bulletproof life. Thankfully, I no longer worry or have anxiety, and am able to act as a calm leader instead of adding to the drama. Now, I am able to help others. The No. 1 reason I do what I do now is because I want to be available to my family and friends. I want to be able to show up 100%. Remember that you don’t need to do it alone. It’s always nice to have a fitness buddy! Little things here and there add up to big things over time…
Venkatesh Thummisetti: From Slacklining to Stillness—Finding Balance is Key
My life is all about balance. In addition to training Kendama, slacklining and working on Rubik’s Cubes, I practice stillness and breath work. I also love traveling, hiking, exploring, eating a good meal and service and volunteer work. I’m aspiring to read at least 12 books in 2021 (six completed so far), learn how to do flips and design a product/service that allows my peers to reach out to me.
When I opened Instagram to share a post a few weeks ago and saw the #BETHEPROOF challenge on my feed that said share a post of you doing what you love. Both my post and the challenge were very relatable, so I decided to take part.
I’m not a current consumer (yet!). However, I found the brand for the first time via the Challenge and love what I’ve discovered of the product line. I’m really excited to try the mood, memory and performance supplements, like Bulletproof Smart Mode, Bulletproof Immune Complex and Zen Mode, as well as trying out the Bulletproof Sleep Induction Mat.
I’m dedicated to enriching relationships, empowering work and fulfilling my passions: movement, arts and service. I am proud to say that I pursue my passions—Every. Single. Day.
Not feeling inspired these days? Start by paying attention and identifying what’s helping you and what’s not. Train your mind and body regularly. My advice: There are going to be storms every now and then. That’s not going to change, ever—especially for a big dreamer. But, our ability to surf the storms improves over time. Keep swimming, drowning, rising and surfing in the oceans of your life. Just keep going, and you’ll come out stronger than ever before.
Melissa Servedio: Helping Myself to Help Others
I’ve been on a health and wellness journey the past three years and wanted to show people that you can push yourself to Be The Proof; that anything is possible. I’ve been exercising daily before work—starting my day right—and that has included incorporating some of Bulletproof’s products into my routine. Additionally, being diabetic and living life with a chronic disease, it was important to me to show people you can do anything.
We live in a world where there are constant struggles, worries and anxieties. We’re so busy and so much is going on. However, I want to show people you can take care of yourself, and that you can accomplish your goals, no matter what is going on around you (or what you are dealing with internally). No matter the cards you’ve been dealt in life, loss of a job, a pandemic, a chronic illness, I want to give people hope—especially in a time where many have felt anxious and beaten down.
Thanks to Bulletproof, I’ve become a coffee drinker—after 35 years! I add Bulletproof MCT Oil, as well as the new Bulletproof Original Creamer. Additionally, this past year, I started intermittent fasting, so I’ve loved incorporating these products into my routine for fat burning, focus and energy. In the morning, I love sipping a can of Bulletproof Cold Brew Latte to get focused for work, while also giving my body protein and quality fat-burning oils. I love having those convenient, ready-to-drink beverages as a part of my wellness journey.
Today, I am the healthiest and fittest I’ve ever been in my life. I’m eating healthy, moving my body daily and learning new ways to take care of myself. My diabetes is also amazingly controlled! I am also working at a job that I enjoy as a mental health therapist and an office administrator. I get to help people on a daily basis—get them connected to support they need. And, I’m spending time with those I love: my nieces, nephew, best friend and family.
