Corporation became a worldwide powerhouse in
enterprise networking solutions because they have
expert knowledge in the hardware and software
required to deliver. Recently they needed a Web
based solution for an Internal support
application. Their choice? JDesignerPro
Mr.
Pete Heller, Senior Technical Support Engineer at
3Com, recounts the story:
" We needed an application set to manage
access to important customer account and network
configuration data. As we manage customer support
we need fast information about the customer's
network setup. We also must replicate that setup
in the lab. We can turn around requests in
a much faster
time frame than before which saves money
for the customer and for 3Com while
maximizing their network efficiency.
" Two of
the main solutions we've built are a Customer
Profile System for searching over,
adding and modifying data on our major customers,
and a Drawing Server Launch System
for accessing the network configuration drawing
directory on the server and launch the interface
to manage the directory.
" Thanks to
these applications, all of our customer support
staff can access important customer information
and network drawing configuration through a
browser. "

Heller of 3Com
What is your favorite thing about
JDesignerPro?
---"Great product. The
wizards are very important. They allowed a very
intuitive and fast way of building database
applications. The product also includes many data
aware components. The deployment is easy yet
powerful. So many features exist that I will be
able to add many new functions and features to my
applications as time goes on."
How
long did it take? How many developers?
---""Including the
learning curve I was able to complete all of my
applications in approximately 3 months and I was
the only one working on it. Bottom line, it took
less time and was easier than I thought."
How
extensive was your experience with Java before
starting with JDesignerPro?
---"I had a few months
of experience with Symantec Cafe Database
Development Edition. That was all."
What
other development tools/servers did you evaluate?
---"We also evaluated
Sybase(R) PowerJ(TM) and Symantec Visual Café
Database Development Edition, but JDesignerPro
was the clear choice."
