Download Multimedia Tutorials

We have presently provided three separate downloads each containing a set of tutorials in AVI format. To play these tutorials you need to be running your machine in at least an 800x600 format. You will also need to be running Windows 95, 98 or NT as the files are in Windows AVI format. We plan to create more of these tutorials in the coming weeks.

General Tutorials:

Introduction to JDesignerPro (12MB) - This download consists of Tutorials 1 - 4 as found in the JDesignerPro manual. They cover using the Layout Managers to creating and deploying a complete application that accesses a JDBC compliant database. If you have not yet done these tutorials or you are short on time and would like to just watch the tutorial rather than do it yourself download this file. If you are reviewing JDesignerPro or would just like to see what JDesignerPro can do without downloading and installing it we recommend looking at these tutorials. They will quickly show you how easy it is to use JDesignerPro.

Introduction to building and deploying standalone Palm apps with JDesignerPro (16MB) (NEW) - This download consists of 3 tutorials specific to building standalone applications for Palm OS and Windows Handheld devices. They cover creating and deploying a complete application that creates its own local database on the handheld and loads initial data from the server. This tutorial specifically demonstrates how to use the new features of JDesignerPro 4.5. If you are reviewing JDesignerPro or would just like to see what JDesignerPro can do without downloading and installing it we recommend looking at these tutorials. They will quickly show you how easy it is to use JDesignerPro to build mobile applications for Palm OS and Windows Handheld devices

Advanced development and deployment (8MB) - This download consists of 2 demos that show how to do advanced development and deployment with JDesignerPro. One demonstrates how to create your own interactions between databound and other types of components along with demonstrating how to view and edit the source generated by the database wizards that are a part of the Application Builder. The other shows you how to create a new user and assign authorization codes for that user so they only have access to the applications they are supposed to see and no others. Download this if you have progessed through building and deploying your first application.

Connecting to various databases using JDBC and ODBC (10MB) - This download consists of 3 demos that show how to connect to various databases. One demonstrates connecting to an Oracle database using the JDBC driver that is included with JDesignerPro. Another shows how to set up an ODBC datasource that JDesignerPro can use to connect using the JDBC/ODBC bridge JDBC Driver. The last one demostrates installing a third party JDBC driver and using it to connect to a remote database. Download this if you are having troubles connecting to your database.

Coming soon:

  • Introduction to building server side applications.
  • Testing and deploying server side applications.

Tutorials specific to Novell NDS:

Introduction to Building Applications over Novell NDS using JDesignerPro (9MB) - This download consists of two tutorials that will walk you through creating both a User Maintenance and a Group Maintenance application over Novell NDS rather than a JDBC compliant database. To build applications such as these on your own machine you will be required to have the Windows version of JDesignerPro with support for NDS or the NetWare version of JDesignerPro. If you are interested in the NDS support JDesignerPro provides but don't have the time to download and install JDesignerPro you should download this demo. It will quickly show you the NDS support in JDesignerPro.

Introduction to Maintaining user information and access using JDesignerPro (9MB) - This download consists of two tutorials. The first one demonstrates how the JDesignerPro User Maintenance screen allows Admins and End users to maintain user information such as name, address, email as well as the ability to set new passwords all from just using a browser. The second one demonstrates how JDesignerPro uses NDS to store and retrieve the rights an end user has to applications that are deployed through the JDesignerPro Access Control System.

Informative Demonstrations:

Introduction to Server Side Development and Deployment using JDesignerPro (2.4MB) - This download consists of two overview demostrations that briefly describe the features of JDesignerPro that allow server side application development and deployment. If you are interested in a basic overview of the server side support that JDesignerPro offers you should download this demo.
