Enterprise Server - Process
Management
 With the Server Manager console
you have the power to manage any server process
- any application that needs to be run - with respect to
when it runs, why it runs and what runs before and after
it. Essentially, anything you wish to have running on the
server can become a "job". To manage jobs, the
Server Manager uses Subsystems, Job Queues, Job
Priorities and Scheduling.

These features form a
framework in which you can schedule anything to run on
the server at the time you need. It has powerful
tracking, logging, notification and restart features
that give you control over what happens and will log the
application progress in the event of a server failure or
shutdown. Example uses of the Server Manager:
- Schedule an end
of day inventory reconciliation based on
data about product shipped, returned and stored.
Once run, have the server send this data to
certain executives via e-mail or attached to an
e-mail as an MS-Excel file.
- Check the database
every hour for web traffic information and send
results via alpha pager* to network
administrators.
- Run reports each
night over your data while the server is at a
minimum load.
- Have the server
execute daily FTP's of data at the time you set.
- Query your sales
lead database every ten minutes for new leads
entered on the Web or by a phone operator. Once
found, have the server run a database query for
which local sales executive matches the lead's
location. Then have it e-mail or page*
the sales executive with the lead information
for immediate follow up.
