Thank you for visitng Netscape's home pages and choosing to see our site. Instead of going directly to WallStreetWeb(tm) and JAGG(tm), we were asked to talk a bit about BulletProof's Java technology.
The Era of Java:
BulletProof.com is pioneering the move of the graphical user interface from the
desktop to what we call the "Webtop". The WallStreetWeb Java application proves
the commercial viability of Java as a tool for the Web. Imagine having all the functionality of a traditional store-bought software package, only now you don't have to buy and install the software, it comes to you automatically over the Web! Using Java, Netscape's Navigator 2.0, and BulletProof's Webtop interface, the sky's the limit.
By employing our Java ODBC engine, JAGG, WallStreetWeb is able to quickly transfer data from BulletProof's Netscape Commerce Server to platform-independent WallStreetWeb applets around the globe. BulletProof has released JAGG as a Development tool for sale to Java developers. Below are the links to both products.
The Future of Desktop Computing:
A Little History:
As soon as BulletProof learned of Java's capabilities, it became clear where the Webtop interface was headed. The company's engineers, lead by Mr. Peter Muller, began working with Java in mid-1995 and steadily built the existing WallStreetWeb interface. Although the Java language is excellent for Web development, it does have idiosynchrasies that the
BulletProof programmers learned to overcome and work around. The
development effort to produce the current WallStreetWeb application has been enormous.
The current features include Instant Quotes for your personal list of tickers, graphical charting with basic and technical charts, user-definable chart views, stock searching based on user's own criteria, and ticker information. The charting is even interactive. Click on any day on the chart and that day's stats for that ticker symbol will appear in the stats area. Intraday charting is also available as a choice in the pop up menu below the chart. The price axis will zoom in and out simply by clicking on it. The quotes are currently fifteen minute delayed.
BulletProof.com plans to add much more to what you see now on WallStreetWeb. New features include Portfolio Management, Transactions History, news feeds and wireless paging.
The Future:
Java will allow BulletProof to build a myriad of interactive interfaces to back-end database information. For example, BulletProof could put full TV show listings on the Web, like an
online TV Guide, or complete online banking with a nice GUI for
transactions. With this kind of power on the Web, we expect to see exciting apps appearing constantly.
